Hidden Valley Middle School and Jordan School District do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, beliefs, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity in any educational program or activity. JSD Policy AS94.
Language is a powerful tool. Unfortunately, we may intentionally/unintentionally use words that hurt or discriminate against others, particularly by using emotionally charged language.
Emotionally charged language refers to words or phrases that stereotype, insult, or demean people based on their race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or cultural background.
When we use emotionally charged or discriminatory language, we are not only disrespecting others, but we are also contributing to a negative environment that can be incredibly damaging to individuals and our entire school community.
The impact of offensive language extends beyond just the person it's directed at. Our school should be a safe place for everyone, where diversity is celebrated and embraced.
All members of the HVMS school community are expected to treat one another with respect - physically, verbally, digitally, and in written form. Students should report any concerns to a trusted adult - parent, teacher, counselor, or administrator.
