PARENT GUIDANCE OFFERS EDUCATION AND THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT TO EMPOWER AND GIVE YOU HOPE AS YOU SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S MENTAL HEALTH.

FERPA:

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Please complete this FERPA (parent permission form).  This allows the Counselor(s)/School Psychologist to meet with your student throughout the year.  You can Email this form to the designated Counselor for your student, or you can hand deliver it to your Counselor in the  Counseling Center for them to keep on file for the year.  The Counselors also have paper copies available in the Counseling Center if needed.  We respect family and student confidentiality and are guided by FERPA law.

GROUPS WITH PEERS:

The Counselors and Psychologist, will run Social & Emotional Groups throughout the school year with students.  These Groups can develop throughout the year, on a needs basis.  Some of the groups listed below, are common topics in a school setting:

  • Peer Relations and Social Skills
  • Self-Esteem
  • Changing Families/Divorce
  • Managing Stress/Anxiety
  • Grief

HVMS MENTAL HEALTH/EMOTIONAL SUPPORT:

INDIVIDUAL STUDENT/FAMILY BRIEF COUNSELING:

  • SOLUTION FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY
  • COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR BRIEF THERAPY (CBT)
  • REALITY BRIEF THERAPY
  • RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (REBT)
  • GRIEF
  • POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY AND RESILIENCY TOOLS

If these brief interventions, strategies, and therapeutic tools are not sufficient enough during the school day, and taking your student out of the classroom becomes a problem (for long periods of time), counselors can provide other professional resources (upon request) for your student outside of school.
